REAL STORIES FROM REAL WOMEN

Every Foxy has her own story.

Some joined having never run before. Others came back to running after a break, wanted a new challenge or simply wanted some company along the way.

Whatever brought them to Foxy Ladies, these are the real stories of the women who make our club what it is — the friendships they’ve made, the confidence they’ve found and the things they’ve discovered they’re capable of.

OUR FOXY STORIES

“I thought to myself, ‘I’m going to be one of those ladies soon.’”

JO FORER

I joined Learn to Run in January 2026 and I have to say it’s the best thing I’ve done. Moving to Findon four years ago to start my own business, I could see all these ladies running past my house four or five times a week, all chatting and having a good old giggle. I thought to myself, “I’m going to be one of those ladies soon.”

It took a while, but I was ready this year and joined. The group had return-to-run runners coming back from injury or surgery, ladies who had run before and, for one reason or another, had to stop, and some total newcomers — me included.

Everyone was welcomed with big smiles and I felt very comfortable straight away. Before you know it, you’re running two or three times a week with a fixed plan, help on hand and trusting the process. Then you’re graduating on the seafront, happily running a 5K. I am now an official Foxy Lady and proud to be part of such a fabulous female community.

"Its given me a new lease of life"

HELEN BISHOP

Without being too dramatic, joining Foxy Ladies Running Club has been one of the best things I’ve ever done.

I’ve always floated from one health kick to another but never stuck at it. This is the longest I have ever been with a club in my life.

My family always say that joining FLRC has given so much to me. My mum says she sees a massive difference in the way I am, and I’ve made some amazing friendships. Not only can I run 5K, I can also run 10K — and who knows, maybe a bit further one day!

I’m not what you would call a natural runner and I don’t particularly enjoy exercise, but I now find myself running three times a week and cycling most weekends. I can only put that down to the running club and the fact it’s given me a new lease of life.

I’ll finish by saying that being a Foxy is probably my life now — and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

“I never thought I’d be good enough to join a running club.”

Sharon Hunter

I moved to Worthing in 2019 to give my family a life of sea, outdoors and garden. Then Covid hit.

I hardly knew anyone but loved running. I never thought I’d be good enough to join a running club. I searched the area but didn’t see any club I fancied… until, ta dah — Foxy Ladies!

Since then, I’ve made some amazing friends, found my running buddy and challenged myself with half marathons, trails, marathons… and a bloody ultra!

The ride has been supportive, challenging — and it’s not over!

“I’ve discovered new routes, strength I didn’t know I had and, most importantly, wonderful new friends.”

AZZY CALDERBANK

I had been running solo for quite a while before I joined Foxy Ladies RC and, honestly, I was in a bit of a rut.

I was bored with the same runs week in, week out, not really making any progress and tired of my own company.

Since joining Foxes, I’ve discovered new routes, strength I didn’t know I had and, most importantly, wonderful new friends.

“Every run is like a little therapy session — I always come away feeling better and smiling.”

HANNAH BOYNS

The club is so much more to me than a running club. It’s improved my running and fitness — and helped keep my sanity at a publicly accepted level!

Foxy has become a huge part of my life. I’ve made lifelong friends, and every session — whether it’s an official group session or an extra trot with friends — is like a little therapy session. I always come away feeling better and smiling.

I would never even have attempted the distances I’ve done without the Foxies and their devoted support.

“At 56 I joined Learn to Run. In my 60th year, I ran a marathon.”

HEATHER WINCELL

I joined FLRC in 2018 to lose the Pudsey Bear weight! I was 56 and started with the 8-week Learn to Run course.

Unbelievably, in my 60th year I ran the Walt Disney World Marathon in Florida, followed by the London Marathon.

I’ve made lifelong friends with people I would never have met without FLRC. We are a special, unique community. I’m now two stone lighter and, in 2027, I’ll be doing my first — and last! — ultra marathon. I’ll be 65. What a wonderful club!

“Foxy Ladies made me realise I could achieve what I thought was unachievable. They will always be friends for life.”
